Charitable Foundation Of West Bay Rotary
The Board of our Charitable Foundation consists of the Board of the West Bay Rotary Club plus a Chair, Treasurer and Secretary specific to the Charitable Foundation. The President-Elect of the club serves as the Chair of the Foundation.
The Charitable Foundation Of West Bay Rotary is a 501.c.3 and generally considered our local giving arm. Funds come into the Foundation through direct donation and Board-approved funds from our club fundraising activities. We also accept donations for non-local projects such as the Yucatan Water Project and the Wheelchair Project.
Grant applications are accepted twice a year (spring & fall) from local non-profits and less formal groups doing good works in our community. The maximum amount for an individual grant is $1,500, and the total amount we award is based on our fund balance, which generally ranges from $7,000-$10,000 per half year. The grant applications are reviewed by our Community Service Committee, which then makes recommendations to the Board for final approval. We maintain a small reserve for good causes which have a more immediate need that falls outside the usual application cycle.
Recently we started an endowment fund as part of the Charitable Foundation. We can accept direct donations specifically to this fund and have allowed members to contribute quarterly along with their regular dues as well as posthumously. This fund is intended to build a reserve for those years when we may have raised less funds than usual or there is a larger need deserving our support.
