Speaker of the Day: Nicole Evans – American Red Cross of Northern New England
Everyone has been touched by some kind of emergency. 3 chapters in Maine, Midcoast, Portland and Bangor. 800 volunteers in the state, 400 active. 363 shelter nights to people, have had 33K people in shelters in one night but struggling with Covid separation. 1M meals given out as of today. $24M from hurricane Laura. Red Cross services around the world include: disaster services, biomedical services, training services, international services, and service to the Armed Forces. They enroll people into first aid and CPR, install free smoke alarms and teach students through the pillow project. What can you do? Blood/ Financial/Time/ Partnerships. Every 2 seconds, someone needs blood.
Committee Reports:
Backpack/Mask program: Barbara – given out 95 bags (most with supplies), given out supplies extra to some, mask kits given out, sewers have been sewing them up! Members have been ordering some as well. Letter received from a family that received a pack! Around $1700 raised for this program this year. A lot of outside donors as well.
Book Club: Oct 13, 1700 Zoom. Contact Kristin. The Splendid and The Vile, Erik Larson.
Painting Trim, Oct 3, 4 for Midcoast Recovery.
International: Next Monday morning at the amphitheater.
Community: Next Habitat Project is Oct 17th. Let Tim Dresser know if you are interested in hanging out with some builders! We can have as many volunteers from now on, Come Join Us!!
Corn Hole: Sat Sept 26th. 12 to 4 pm. No spectators. Interact will be present and selling bake goods! Weather looks good! 14 teams signed up. Want 10 more teams. $20 raffle tickets for sale.
