The sailboat Captain for 8 years of a 57 foot catamaran. While relocating the boat from Annapolis to the Caribbean, November 16, 2016, the 3 person crew encountered strong northern winds as a front was moving to Saint Marten. During this storm, the boat was flipped upside down by what may have been a water spout. They were able to secure the life raft, scuba tank, ditch bag, emergent suits and send out an emergency signal (around 730 pm). The coast guard flew out around 10 pm, having traveled out 800-900 miles. The boat was located around 400 miles north of the Dominican republic. By 5 am, the ship closest to them arrives and all 3 crew members were brought on board safely. The crew was dropped off with the US Coast Guard and brought back to US. The downed boat merged with gulf stream and was eventually spotted and towed in around the Carolinas where she was auctioned off.
