Speaker of the Day: Mia Wallace/Train for Change

Program assistant for Train for Change, Master of Education, teaching English as a second language. Working in Honduras Empowering Teachers Program is helping students in under developed parts of the country. Building and reconstructing schools is a priority to keep kids in school, working in 1000 communities. Once the school construction is completed, Mia’s group goes in to help teachers. Formed in collaboration with the Honduras people, they realized the need for professional development support for the teachers. Rotary got involved, setting up a global grant for assistance! Students Helping Honduras is where Mia got involved, building schools and summer camps. They use a train the trainer model and keep the schools connected so they may be able to assist one another, this impacts 1 million students. Student attendance and engagement (participate) are high on the list of measuring success. Covid has changed how they teach as well. Still planning how to get further into remote communities utilizing text message technologies. Thank You Rotary!
